Congratulations!
On October 20, 2017, the President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis award the Order of the Three Stars for special merits for the benefit of the State of Latvia and to appoint Dr. habil. biol. Isaak Rashal, academician of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, professor of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Latvia, plant geneticists, also a leading researcher of the Institute of Biology of the University of Latvia, head of the Environmental Genetics Laboratory.

LUBI's young scientist participates in the European Plant Biology Congress in Prague
Report: Changes in the anatomical structure of lime tree foliage in response to de-icing salt contamination, by G. Čekstere, A. Osvalde, T. Menard, P. Vollenweider.
This year The European Plant Biology Congress "EPSO / FESPB Congress 2016" took place in Prague, Czech Republic, on 26-30 June, with the participation of more than 700 scientists from around the world, representing not only Europe but also America, Australia, etc. presented reports on 34 different topics, such as plant-microbial interactions, epigenetics, phytohormones, responses to abiotic and biotic stress, effects of climate change on ecosystems, plant mineral nutrition, metal metabolism, root biology, and scientific communication, etc. Dr. Gunta Čekstere, Leading Researcher of the Plant Mineral Nutrition Laboratory of the Institute of Biology (LUBI), also participated in the congress of the report “Changes in the anatomical structure of lime tree foliage in response to de-icing salt contamination.” Co-authors of the report: Anita Osvalde from LUBI, Terry Menard and Pierre Vollenweider from the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (Snow a a nd Landscape Research WSL).
Renovation of infrastructure
At the end of 2015, the 1st round of the renovation project was implemented at the Institute of Biology of the University of Latvia. The ERDF project has been successfully completed in Appendix 2.1 of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program. Priority «Science and Innovation» 2.1.1. Measure 2.1.1.3 of the measure “Science, research and development” Activities “Development of Science and Research Infrastructure” 2.1.1.3.1. sub-activity "Development of Science Infrastructure". The institute building was replaced with windows, entrance nodes were reconstructed and a security system was installed.
