The Latvian Ringing Center (LGC) of the Institute of Biology of the University of Latvia has a unique paper archive with information on the individual marking of approximately 1.8 million birds and bats in Latvia since 1925, as well as on the findings of ringed animals in our country and abroad.

In September 2019, in cooperation with the Nature Protection Board, LGC started the project “1st round of digitization of the archive of the Latvian Ringing Center” financed by the Latvian Environmental Protection Fund Entering full bird ringing data in MS Excel tables for 59214 ringed birds, 1941-1957. Input of bird ringing summary data for 101858 ringed birds, as well as digitization of paper archive documents by preparing photocopies in the form of raster files.
